A 60-day cruise around Australia is being halted following the death of an older woman who was left behind by the vessel on a isolated island.

The elderly woman had been trekking on Lizard Island with other travelers from the vessel, but parted ways from the excursion for a rest. The liner sailed away leaving her and came back later that day after the ship staff realised the woman was unaccounted for.

A major rescue mission found her person the subsequent day.

Investigative bodies are looking into the tragedy, together with investigators and the state coroner.

Head of the cruise operator stated that travelers and staff on the ship were notified that the continuation of the journey had been cancelled due to the "tragic passing and earlier technical problems".

Via official communication, he mentioned that guests would be issued a complete reimbursement, and said the operator was working "to coordinate the homeward trips of the individuals via chartered flights".

Regulatory bodies also published an updated announcement, and said they had "provided a directive to the Master" preventing any new passengers from getting on the liner.

The spokesperson said that they would visit the ship in Cairns upon its arrival.

The liner originally sailed from Cairns on the 24th of October, and was just two days into the expedition at the time of the 80-year-old's demise. The remote island was the opening port on the voyage.

Guests on the ship - who usually pay tens of thousands of money to participate in the voyage - were taken there for a shore visit with the option of walking or underwater exploration.

Family Reaction

The daughter of the deceased woman said that her loved ones was "shocked and distressed that the liner left Lizard Island after an organised excursion without my mum".

Via her announcement, she characterized her mother as an "vigorous elderly person" who was a member of a walking group.

"Based on limited facts we have been informed, it seems that there was a lapse of care and ordinary reasoning," she mentioned.

She continued that she wished the inquiry would be able to determine what "the organization should have performed that might have preserved Mother's life".

"Based on information from the investigators that it was a very hot day, and mother took sick on the hill climb," she explained.

"They requested her to head down, without accompaniment. Then the ship sailed away, reportedly without conducting a passenger count.

"At some stage in that chain of events, or shortly after, mother died, alone."

Organization Position

Via official communication, the Head confirmed that the organization was "cooperating fully with authorities to assist their inquiry".

He mentioned that the firm was "deeply sorry that this has occurred" and had provided its full support to the family.

Cruise Industry Standards

The ship serves up to a hundred twenty travelers with nearly fifty staff, according to corporate details. It was specially constructed to access distant locations of the nation's coastline and is equipped with "auxiliary vessels" - small boats used to take individuals on shore trips.

Incidents of this nature are infrequent, and liners have protocols to document which travelers are embarking or getting off, according to travel authorities.

"Sneaking ashore or [back] onboard really isn't an possibility," an authority remarked.
